Imagine this: you’re in an unexpected situation, and reaching for help is crucial. But your phone is locked, and you can’t access your contacts. This is where emergency contacts come in – lifesavers stored right on your phone! Setting Up Emergency Contacts on Your Mobile Phone is a simple but crucial step to ensure you have help readily available in a crisis.
Emergency contacts are pre-selected people you can easily reach, even if your phone is locked. First responders and helpful bystanders can see this information and contact them on your behalf. Here’s how to set them up on both Android and iPhone
Android
- Open the Settings app.
- Look for Safety & emergency or Emergency contacts (depending on your device).
- You might see options to add Medical information like allergies or medications. Fill this out if you want emergency responders to have this information.
- For contacts, tap Add emergency contact and choose a contact from your list.
iPhone
- Open the Health app.
- Tap your profile picture in the top right corner.
- Select Medical ID.
- Tap Edit and turn on Show When Locked.
- Under Emergency Contacts, tap the plus sign to add a contact.
By setting up emergency contacts, you’re taking a proactive step towards safety. Remember, these few minutes spent now can make a world of difference in an emergency. So, be prepared, and empower your phone to be a hero too!
